Our 50th Reunion: Pre-Reunion Events

March 24, 2014

Dear Yale 1964 Classmate:

You will note from the reunion schedule that even before Thursday afternoon when our reunion formally begins, we have planned a very busy start. For those making early travel plans, here are the highlights:

  • Wednesday Golf Outing and Mory’s Dinner. As you know, golfers must separately register for the golf outing, which begins at the Yale Course on Wednesday morning and concludes in time for an informal class dinner at Mory’s that evening. The registration for the Mory's dinner is part of the registration for the reunion, and you don’t have to be a golfer to attend. Please see the detailed reunion schedule for further details. Lodging is available at the Clarion Hotel in Hamden for $109/night for as long as you want to stay (mention "Yale Class of 1964"). Many golfers are arriving Tuesday evening.

  • Thursday Morning Visit to the New Evans Building and Not-for-Profit Panel. Our late classmate Ned Evans donated the money for the spectacular new Yale School of Management Building at 165 Whitney Avenue. At 9:00am we will tour the Evans building. At 10:00am, also in the Evans building, Sharon Oster, former Dean of the School of Management, will lead a panel of five classmates, each of whom is active on boards of not-for-profit entities. They will explore topics which increasingly challenge many of us as we enter retirement: how to manage not-for-profits efficiently and successfully; how to serve effectively on not-for-profit boards; how to hire, retain, and supervise professional staff; and related questions.

  • Thursday Morning Visit to the Yale Art Gallery. At 10:00am our honorary classmate Jock Reynolds, Director of the Yale Art Gallery, will welcome us in the High Street lecture hall of the newly renovated — and highly acclaimed — gallery and will tell us of the astonishing transformation that has taken place in this space since we left New Haven five decades ago. Self-guided tours of the gallery will follow, with docents strategically placed at key collections to answer our questions.

Those who arrive early and plan to stay in Davenport College will be able to drop off luggage at the college any time after 8:00am on Thursday morning. Formal check-in for the reunion commences at 1:00pm.

No additional fees are associated with either of the Thursday morning events. However, so that we may know how many classmates to expect at each venue, we ask that you send an email to John Evans at john_evans@snet.net simply telling him which event you plan to attend and how many people will join you.

In future emails, we will supply further details about the many other programs that our class has scheduled. Please remember: THE DEADLINE FOR REDUCED FEE REGISTRATIONS IS MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2014. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET REGISTERED, NOW IS THE TIME TO DO SO.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Pete Putzel
