Letter from the Chairmen of our Fiftieth Reunion:

March 22, 2013

Our 50th Reunion will convene in New Haven from Thursday, May 29 through Sunday, June 1, 2014, less than a year and a half away!

We are busily planning a weekend that will engage, challenge, and entertain everyone, and we warmly encourage each of you to mark the date in blue on your calendar and to make plans to attend with your wife or partner.

During the coming months, Larry Crutcher and his board of editors will be soliciting your respective contributions to our Class Book, which promises to be a stimulating retrospective of the half century since our graduation and a provocative look at where we are as a generation with, perhaps, some educated speculation on what the future holds. You will also be hearing from classmates who will be encouraging you to submit material for the book and to plan to attend the reunion.

Fifty years ago, during times of increasing turbulence, we spent four important years together. Each of us has, of course, changed a lot since our graduation from Yale, just as the world has dramatically changed. In the ensuing years, each has had times of great happiness and success and, inevitably, equivalent sadness and disappointment. The reunion gives us an opportunity to celebrate our common roots and to re-connect with old friends, some of whom we haven't seen for decades. It also provides an occasion to take stock of ourselves in an atmosphere of acceptance and conviviality.

Our program committee is designing class presentations with these objectives in mind. In the coming months, as these programs firm up, we will give you a glimpse of coming attractions. We'd also like to hear from you! Please let us know if you have suggestions for the weekend's program.

Depending on the number of attendees (which we fully expect to break all attendance records!), our class will be based in either Davenport or Silliman College. For those who prefer to stay in a New Haven hotel, we ask that you not make reservations until next fall, when the Association of Yale Alumni will notify you of special reunion room rates at these establishments. For now, you can help us by sending us your ideas, encouraging your friends to attend, and responding promptly and fully to the solicitations of our Class Book editors.

We look forward to seeing you on May 29-June 1, 2014.
