Class of 1964 Recognized with AYA "Award of Excellence" for Support of Environmental Issues

On November 12, 2010, at AYA Assembly LXX, the AYA Board of Governors recognized the Class of 1964 with their Award for Excellence: "Outstanding Class Volunteer Engagement and Leadership." The award is presented to the Class that "best demonstrates meaningful leadership in strategic planning, volunteer recruitment, financial management, and stewardship."

Read the application prepared by Class Secretary Tony Lavely. It cites sustained support for environmental issues through:

  • Class reunions
  • Class mini-reunions
  • Class financial grants
  • Class sponsorship of summer interns
  • Class website
  • Yale Alumni Magazine class notes
  • AYA Assembly participation and reports
  • Individual professional activities
  • Individual financial contributions for building projects
  • Individual articles, publications, and conferences

The 5-page application is exhaustive in its citation of the specifics of these 10 categories. Our activities, viewed individually, are commendable. But when seen all together, described in one document, they are truly impressive.

Thanks to all the classmates who made this award possible, and special thanks to Tony Lavely for the large effort to assemble and submit the application.
