Peter died on September 9, 2013. His daughter, Devan Correll, sent the following obituary and remembrance. The obituary was published in The Hartford Courant on September 26, 2013.

Peter von Haan Carey, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in San Diego, CA on September 9, 2013 from lung failure. He was 71 years old.

He was born and raised in Farmington before moving to California as an adult, where he spent over 36 years working as an air-traffic controller and training new staff. He was a graduate of Taft preparatory school ('59) and Yale University ('64) and served in the United States Navy, including two tours in Vietnam.

He is survived by his two daughters, Devan Correll of San Diego, CA, and Laura Carey of Washington, DC. His ashes were laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington, Connecticut.

My Dad was proud of his time at Yale, and I remember hearing many Yale stories during my childhood in California (after Yale and years in the Navy, my father moved to southern California where he spent the remaining four decades of his life). A baseball fan since childhood, my Dad's home team for the last 20 years was the San Diego Padres. He enjoyed taking our family, and especially his grandchildren, to Padres games at Petco Park downtown. For this reason, we have chosen to honor his memory by giving to the Padres Foundation for Children. Below I have included information on donations to this charitable organization.
