George R. L. Meiling

George R.L. Meiling, age 70, died on March 6, 2013, at OSU Medical Center of natural causes.

Born in Bexley, Ohio in 1942, son of Maj. Gen. Richard L. Meiling MD and Elizabeth Lucas Meiling, George is survived by his wife Susan, sons Andrew and Richardson (Brandy), step-son Michael (Diane) Zieg, and his nine grandchildren.

George was a graduate of the Columbus Academy, Yale University, and Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He served with the rank of captain in the United States Air Force (Europe), and earned the Air Force Commendation Medal.

He was a financial executive of banking organizations from 1969-2002.

Served as director-trustee: American Rose Society, World Federation of Rose Societies Conservation Committee, Columbus Park of Roses Foundation, Ameriflora '92, Green Lawn Cemetery, Pro Musica, Columbus Light Opera, Central Ohio Arts Council, Columbus Club, Yale Club of Central Ohio, Yale Alumni Association, Columbus Academy Alumni Board, and Harvard Business School Club.

Member of Columbus Public Schools Neighborhood School Development oversight committee. Treasurer: Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus Club, Kit Kat Club, Christ Church, Columbus Park of Roses Foundation, American Rose Society Old Garden Rose Committee, Chairman American Rose Society Classification Committee, Consulting Rosarian, Master Rosarian, International Rose Trials Judge, Earth-Kind Roses representative for Northeastern US.

Member: Columbus Club, Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club, Kit Kat Club, The Mory's Association, Royal National Rose Society, American Rose Society, Central Ohio Rose Society, and The Columbus Rose Society.

Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger RD. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215. The Rev. Richard A.Burnett officiating. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
