Class of 1964 55th Reunion — Miscellaneous Topics
April 1, 2019
Dear member of the Yale '64 family:
Our Reunion is right around the corner, and 118 classmates have registered so far. You can see who is coming here. We’re expecting many more. You can register here.
Our kick-off letter last October asked that you come as you are. We still mean that but, as realists, we know many are adding some color and losing a few pounds.
We have a few requests of you:
Slide Show: On the opening day of the Reunion, at the welcoming ceremony, a slide show will loop with photos of Reunion attendees (classmates, spouses, surviving partners and guests) and captions identifying them. This slide show will also be featured on the Reunion page of our Class website. Please send electronically one or two head-and-shoulder photos for this purpose to Sam Francis, along with the name(s) that you want to see in the caption.
Classmate Authors: Classmate authors are invited to bring their books to the Reunion and to present/discuss/sell their books to classmates during lunch on Saturday, June 1 in the Pierson courtyard. Authors will be responsible for transporting their books to and from. If you are interested, contact Edward Massey.
Surviving Partners: We are making a concerted effort to contact now-deceased classmates’ surviving partners and inviting them to our Reunion. The Reunion and housing in Pierson College are free for surviving partners and their guest. They will all be housed in one entry way. Take a moment to think about deceased classmates and their surviving partners, and whether you think they would enjoy attending our Reunion. After all, the Reunion includes excellent food and drinks, stimulating lectures by esteemed Yale Professors on Friday and Saturday mornings, Conversations on Friday afternoon, Passion Presenters on Saturday afternoon, and a thought-provoking opening panel discussion on Thursday afternoon. If you think of a surviving partner who might be interested, please contact Jan Truebner.
Urban Resources Initiative Tour: Our class began a relationship with the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (SFES) 20 years ago when classmate Gus Speth was appointed dean of the School. Currently our Class supports a SFES sponsored program, Urban Resources Initiative (URI), which plants trees and gardens throughout the City of New Haven to promote beauty and civic pride. We are planning a pre-Reunion tour of URI projects from 9:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, May 30 for early arrivers. Please contact Chris Getman if you would like to attend.
Kaleidoscope of Passions: This topic is back by popular demand from our 50th Reunion. Fifteen classmates will talk — for six minutes each — about personal passions on Saturday afternoon. Click here to see the list of Passion Presenters.
Yale Faculty Lectures & Tours: The University sponsors 17 favorite lectures and tours on Friday and Saturday mornings for all reunion classes. You can review the list on the Program & Schedule page and start to think about which sessions you’d like to attend.
