Obituary

Martin Munn passed away in New York City on March 21, 2018 after a long illness. He is survived by his brother Richard and a nephew Michael who live in Massachusetts.

Marty was not born with a ‘silver spoon’ recalled one of his roommates. Marty’s parents were immigrants/refugees from Europe and the family lived in a development on the West Side of Manhattan built for members of the ILGWU. From these modest roots, Marty went on to one of the city’s elite high schools, Stuyvesant, and from there to Yale University where he graduated in 1964.

Marty enrolled in the NYU School of Law but took a leave of absence in 1968 to work for Eugene McCarthy’s presidential campaign. Returning to NYU he made the Law Review, graduated, and passed the NY Bar.

He joined the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office and worked there for six years. During that time, he assisted on several New York and national-level political campaigns.

He left the DA’s office to serve as the General Counsel for the New York State Assembly Committee on Governmental Operations and later entered private practice as a criminal defense attorney.
