Tom Barnard ’64 on artificial intelligence
May 24, 2024
Tom Barnard ’64 was invited to give a talk on artificial intelligence at our 60th reunion on May 24, 2024. His talk is captured in the following video. Although not an expert in artificial intelligence, Tom dealt with expert systems during his career at the Perkin-Elmer Corporation. Expert systems are computer programs designed to solve complex decision problems, and were precursors to artificial intelligence technology.
After Yale, Tom earned a PhD in Physics at New York University in 1972, and an MBA at the University of Connecticut Business School in 1975. He joined Perkin-Elmer and stayed there for his entire career, retiring as a VP.
