Class Council passes resolution of appreciation for Ward Cates
At its annual meeting on February 6, 2016, the Class Council of the Yale Class of 1964 passed the following resolution:
Resolved, that the 1964 Yale Class Council wishes to express its deep appreciation to our valued classmate, Ward Cates, for his leadership and commitment to Yale University and the Class of 1964.
The Cates name is woven into the fabric of Yale, recognized on plaques in Payne Whitney Gymnasium, Saybrook College Common Room, Mory’s, and soon in the 1964 Gateway in the new residential colleges.
We, his classmates, have watched with interest his progress from “Willard” to “Winky” to “Ward.” Under any name, he has been a mainstay for us and a champion of health care for the world, providing leadership in the battle against AIDS and other diseases.
Above all, the Class of 1964 cherishes Ward’s friendship and his unique ability to light up a room with his contagious ebullience.
