Sam Francis ’64 says we have email addresses for 85% of our class
January 28, 2022
“The percentage of email addresses listed in our Class Directory is the envy of most Yale classes, even the ones much younger than us,” in the opinion of Tony Lavely, ’64 Class Secretary.
Sam Francis ’64, our Class webmaster, confirms that it’s 85% — 660 out of 774 living classmates. Emails and our Class website are the lifeblood of our class communications. Added to this number are email addresses for over 50 surviving spouses, to whom Jan Truebner (honorary ’64) writes every month.
Back in 2016, Jim Rogers ’64 suggested we make every classmate name in Class Notes a “hot link” to an email address. Sam added this innovation to Class Notes by embedding email addresses behind each bolded classmate name, so all a reader has to do is click on the name to initiate an email message to the classmate. No need to look up the name in the directory.
If you’re still in contact with a classmate who does not have his email address listed in our Class Directory, encourage him to add it. Occasionally, when classmates change email addresses, they’re confused about how to update their email address online. For our Class Directory, all you need to do is notify Sam Francis or me. In the Yale Alumni Directory only the alumnus himself can change it.
While you’re thinking about communications from Yale, I remind you of the advice by Terry Holcombe ’64 to add the following two publications to your list: Yale Daily News and Yale Today. There are many other Yale news sources but these two are excellent.
