Stephen Greenblatt ’64 hints at a new book about Shakespeare

In the course of the interview of Emma Smith that Stephen Greenblatt conducted on April 13, Stephen also hinted that he is writing a new book on the theme of “second chances” in Shakespeare’s plays.

Separately, Stephen wrote that his wife Ramie ’89 is also working on a new book. “Ramie and I are both on leave in the fall, and — circumstances permitting — we hope to be in England. We have month-long residences already arranged at Cambridge and Oxford. One of the things we need to do is to visit various country places associated with the early-17th-century women writers that Ramie is writing a book about.”

If you missed the Zoom webinar on April 13, it was a transatlantic Zoom event with Emma Smith, the author of This is Shakespeare. Emma was in London and Stephen was in Cambridge MA. Emma expressed how much she admires Stephen’s expertise on all things Shakespeare.
