Kai Lassen ’64 and Tony Lavely ’64 attend Yale Alumni Fund Board
March 15, 2021
As part of the Yale Alumni Fund Board series in 2020-21, Kai Lassen and Tony Lavely attended a Zoom event called “Sounding Board” on March 15, 2021. The featured speaker was Kimberly Goff-Crews, Yale Secretary and VP for University Life. She spoke on the theme “Belonging at Yale,” a multi-year initiative to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion. Among other news, she announced that Yale will hold its Commencement this May, after canceling it last year.
Kai Lassen, who began his second three-year term on the YAF Board this year, commented: “Goff-Crews expanded on what Yale hopes to do to increase diversity and to make Yale more welcoming by further diversifying faculty, staff, and those entities with whom Yale does business, among other things. Her presentation confirmed that Yale is continuing what they have been doing in these areas for some time.”
Tony Lavely, who will complete his three-year term on the YAF Board this year, asked: “How many buildings on campus are not open to everyone with a Yale ID?” Goff-Crews commented that one of the main goals of the new Schwarzman Center is to make the campus more open and inclusive.
