Mory’s group returns to Zoom for their February virtual luncheon

February 2, 2022

The Mory’s group returned to Zoom for their get-together on February 2 (appropriately, Groundhog Day). Edward Massey ’64 stepped up as a pinch hitter to organize it, since Don Edwards ’64 had a conflict. Thirteen classmates attended, and the conversation was wide-ranging: Whoopi Goldberg’s faux pas on “The View,” New York Times editorials about book banning, the new film Belfast (highly recommended, but get subtitles), controversy at Yale over donor deeds of gift (e.g., Beverly Gage at the Jackson Institute), and daffodils on the Yale campus (fun fact: Dick Vietor’s mother made the original gift to plant 10,000 daffodils every year).

Terry Holcombe ’64 called in from Delray Beach FL; Don Edwards was in Sanibel FL; Chris Getman was in North Branford; Tony Lavely was in Atlanta.

Bill Morse, an expert in Irish music, recommended “There Were Roses” by Tommy Sands (listen here and read the lyrics here).

The decision to return to in-person luncheons at Mory’s was postponed until COVID trends are clearer.
