May 7, 2022
Ron Sipherd, who regularly captures Northern California botany with his photographs, participated in a Yale Day of Service in Oakland CA on May 7. The Yale volunteers spent the morning at The Gardens at Lake Merritt in Oakland. The Gardens are a seven-acre collection of themed gardens, conveniently located in the heart of Oakland at Lakeside Park, our nation’s first wildlife refuge.
Established more than a half-century ago, the Gardens serve as a source of great regional pride, a cultural and educational center, and a place to enjoy tranquility in the heart of the city. The Gardens are poised to serve as an example of the highest standards of horticulture and historic preservation while providing enriching public programs. The group did some planting as well as mulching and composting in many areas of the gardens.
Later, Ron posted photos in his blog, Ronksville. Here’s Ron with his wife Joan, titled “American Gothic II.”
