Regional Zoom calls with 60 classmates kick off 2021

Regional Zoom calls continued in January 2021 in lieu of regional classmate luncheons. Attendance was higher than ever.


Mory’s Zoom call took place on January 6 with Don Edwards hosting. Seventeen classmates engaged for over an hour with these topics:

  • Georgia Senate runoff: It was that day
  • Trump exit antics
  • Biden tax plans
  • COVID-19 vaccine implementation
  • Travel plans for 2021: Mostly none
  • Mini-reunions: No interest until vaccine is dispensed
  • Class golf outing: Possibility Yale in May and Cape Cod in the fall
  • Stock ownership
  • Classmate authors



The Yale Club of NYC call took place on January 13 with Pete Putzel hosting. Fourteen classmates engaged for over an hour with these topics:

  • Vaccine implementation
  • Georgia Senate runoff
  • Giving to Yale
  • New Haven charities
  • Consider Zoom for mini-reunions (Wishcamper)
  • Consider Zoom for book-club discussions (Massey)



The Northern California Bay area call took place on January 14 with Owen O’Donnell hosting. Fifteen classmates engaged for over an hour with these topics:

  • Community service (Sunshine)
  • COVID-19 experiences
  • Vaccine implementation
  • Worst and best experiences at Yale



The Boston area call took place on January 21 with Jerry Flannelly hosting. Fourteen classmates attended along with two surviving spouses: Nancy Upper (Dennis Upper) and Rena Koumantou (Panos Koumandos). We engaged for almost 90 minutes on these and other topics:

  • Surviving spouses and terminology (Nancy and Rena)
  • Changing terminology in race relations
  • Inauguration, especially Amanda Gorman and Lady Gaga
  • Climate change initiatives (John Kerry’s appointment)
  • William Howard Taft trivia at Yale (Danforth)
  • Conditions in the UK (Zeigler and Leader)
  • Conditions in Greece (Koumantou)
