Dr. Larry Reeker, husband of Dr. Gail Bleach of Silver Spring, died April 6, 2012 in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he had lived since 2010. He was 69 years old. Larry Henry Reeker was born February 2, 1943, in Spokane, WA, the son of Walter M. Reeker and Frances Miles Reeker. He grew up in Ephrata, Washington, and graduated from Yale University in 1964. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the Carnegie-Mellon University. His career included senior positions in academia at Ohio State University, the Universities of Oregon, Arizona, and Queensland, Australia; Tulane University, and with the BDM Corporation, the Institute for Defense Analyses, and the National Science Foundation. He retired in 2009 as Senior Computer Scientist with the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.
In addition to wife, Gail, he is survived by their son Seth S. Reeker of Tempe, AZ; a stepson, Greg Reeker; former wife, Linda Karman, and their children, Amb. Philip T. Reeker and his wife Solveig, of Washington, D.C.; David A. Reeker, and his wife Laura, of Bend, OR; and Christina R. Davenport, and her husband Patrick, of Bend, OR; and three grandchildren, Connor, Ethan, and Kylie Davenport.
A memorial service will be held in July, in Ephrata, WA, where he will be interred next to his parents. Donations may be made In Memory of Larry H. Reeker, to the Alzheimer's Association, or to a favorite charity.
