Class Notes

At this writing (May 13th), Butch Hetherington and ten other classmates are playing in the annual class golf outing. I received a nice note from Steve Dana that he appreciates all the planning and communications about class get-togethers. Chip Brennan asked me to clarify a statement made in the May-June notes. Chip is working on plans for a 2006 mini-reunion in Chicago, but others will need to step forward for other potential mini-reunion venues.

David Turner sent a wonderful review that appeared in the Syracuse Post Standard: "It's not too often that a stage director deserves top honors in an opera production, but Richard McKee's well-coifed Barber of Seville on March 12th captured all the joy, wit and fun you could possible ask for in this Rossini masterpiece."

With great sadness, we report the death of Rick Kroon's son, Andrew, in April. Andrew was a senior in Berkeley College and a leader in the Yale Student Environmental Coalition. He was also a close boarding-school friend of my daughter, Vanessa. Memorial donations may be made to the Yale Student Environmental Coalition. Mac Deford is frequently asked to write about the Middle East for the Rockland, Maine, Free Press. His latest two articles are posted on the class web site: "Democracy Now: Middle East Predictions" (April 21, 2005), and "Hizbollah Here and Abroad" (April 28, 2005).

Chris Getman, who served as caretaker of the last three Handsome Dans, is chairing a committee to select the new mascot. "There's a lot involved in being the mascot," Chris told the Yale Daily News, "It's not just going to football games."

Jeremy Wood emailed that he and a number of classmates ― Frank Basler, Dennis DeSilvey, and Nick Danforth ― assembled a "Class of 1964" table at the Yale Divinity School event on April 28 honoring William Sloan Coffin, Jr.

On a personal note, my daughter, Hillary, will be married in the Washington National Cathedral on July 2nd, and a number of Yale friends will be there.
